RAISE THE STANDARD

Jeremiah 51:12. “Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.”

Intercessors are not men or women called to live like civilians. We are fighting the Lord’s battle, and this must keep us right on our toes because our enemies will not fold their hands to see their kingdom crashing from the impact of your kneeling. Intercessors should seek to know more about the ministry God placed in their hands because ignorance is a potent weapon the devil uses against them.

What is standard?

Why do we need to raise a standard?

Who are we raising the standard for?

What impact will the standard create?

What Is Standard?

Standards in war are raised to mark territory,  as an ensign, signaling that a space is taken.

Standard in intercession can be compared to a banner or sign that shows ownership. As we raise prayers for nations, souls, land, and kingdom, a trained intercessor should not forget to erect a standard. Just like the children of Israel, the moment they crossed the River Jordan, God instructed Joshua to have 12 representatives pick 12 stones as a reminder of what God had done.

Joshua 4:4-6

“4. Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

5. And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

6. That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?”

A reminder that the children of Israel didn’t pass the Red Sea or the River Jordan through an expressway or airplane, but on parted waters, a chartered path by God’s miraculous move.

Why Do We Need To Raise A Standard?

“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59.19)

Most times, when a ground is covered or conquered, and there is no sign of dominion, anyone, even the enemy, can come back to claim it, but once a standard is raised, it instills fear in the enemy. The Bible says the spirit of the Lord will raise a standard when the devil comes like a flood to attack you because you are an inheritance of the Lord.

As an intercessor, it is good to learn the principles of raising standards through:

  1. Your knee: By continually raising souls, nations, and land before God.
  1. By the Word: Consistently declaring the word of God on your subject.
  1. By applying the Blood: As the children of Israel did on their signpost, when the spirit of death sees the blood, he will pass over.
  1. By living a Righteous life: As an intercessor, unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the Pharisee, you might not be able to lay claim to a land or nation. As an intercessor, your life is a strong weapon. Don’t delete your prayers or reduce the potency of your prayers by the way you are living daily.  Live a life that makes prayer answer fast.

What Impact Does Standard Create?

“Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.” (Isaiah 62:10)

When we lift a standard, we expand the kingdom through dominion. A land that has not been conquered cannot be taken. When a standard is raised or lifted on a soul, nation, or kingdom, it shows a new ruler has taken over. Power has changed hands, a new order and law now rule. When we raise a standard, it keeps the enemy off; it becomes a danger zone to the opposition party.

As you bend your knee as an intercessor, it’s time to raise a standard to bring and retain the right of ownership. Selah!
